The Sunnybrae Community Association

sunnybrae-logo-page-001

The Sunnybrae Community Association are the officially elected representatives of the community, with a Board of Directors and a wonderful membership.

We hold regular meetings and community events which are posted on our official website: www.sunnybraecommunityassociation.com and our Facebook page: Sunnybrae Community Association.

It is unfortunate that we must clarify this but we are not associated with the Sunnybrae Neighbourhood Facebook page, nor do we support the misinformation, opinions and remarks expressed on it.

With the much appreciated support of the residents of Sunnybrae, your community hall is open year round and hosts sports clubs, private functions, community events, art workshops, fund raising events, and is home to the original Coffeehouse which is a much loved community event.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like clarification on some of the rhetoric about the SCA on the other site, please feel free to contact us.  We will be happy to discuss any and all issues with you.  We invite you to come to a general meeting or function at any time, see the improvements that have been made to the hall in the past year, and hear about the exciting plans for projects yet to come.

We are here for you: our friends, neighbours and residents of Sunnybrae and the surrounding area and will do our best to work with all other agencies to better our community – with your input, support, and enthusiasm.

Thank you for supporting our community!

thank-you

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank Phil Davies, Jim Goodwin & Gary Goodrich from Sunnybrae Water Systems. Phil Davies dropped in at the SCA January board meeting and presented the SCA with a most kind and wonderful donation. An unexpected but very much appreciated offer of support. Thank you!

Happy New Year!

From everyone at the SCA, we wish you a happy new year! We hope everyone enjoyed their festive season, is keeping warm and looking forward to another year in the beautiful Shuswap.

Whether you’re still hunkering down, or out there taking advantage of the winter weather, we thought a little community update might be a good thing.

The Sunnybrae Coffeehouse kicked off their year with a successful and enjoyable evening of music at the Sunnybrae Hall, January 14th. A big thanks to the feature act Blind Bay Blues Band, the local sign-ups and of course the wonderful audience for their continued support of local & live music. With some welcomed new arrivals to the area it is bound to be another exciting year for local talent. The coffeehouse will continue to run on the 2nd Saturday of each month for February, March, April and May. Doors open at 630pm and the show starts at 730pm. Entrance is $3 and free to sign-up performers. All are welcome! The Seniors Hall has also been serving chilli and a bun for $6 from 530pm – 730pm for anyone who fancies a bite to eat before the show. Check out our SCA facebook page for upcoming coffeehouses and information. And if you are a big fan of local music, have a look online for the other great coffeehouses taking place in Revelstoke, Silvercreek, Salmon Arm, Carlin and many more!

Our Raise the Roof project is still underway and we have recently made some applications for grants. For any newcomers to the area, please visit our Raise the Roof page for a little more information. In short, after some beautiful renovations to our community hall’s interior, we now look to improve the exterior of this facility by creating a fixed roof over the outdoor patio. In doing so we aim to significantly improve the year-round usability of this space. Stay tuned for another fundraising event, due Saturday 1st April!

Our next General Meeting will be on Wednesday 22nd March. This will be the Annual General Meeting where all are welcome to attend. We will be announcing upcoming events and nominations and votes for SCA board positions will be open to all voting members (new or renewed memberships taken before the day of the AGM). As always membership to the SCA is kindly encouraged and welcomed. This can be done at any time of the year and memberships are $10 for the year. If you are interest in becoming a member of the SCA, please visit our Contact page.

Last but definitely not least, a big congratulations to our friends at the Tappen Co-op who have recently opened their cold beer, wine & liquor section! A great and convenient one-stop shop for gas, groceries, beverages and of course… ice-cream!

That’s all the news we have for now folks. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions you may have, either through our website or facebook page, and of course feel free to share and spread the word of our community to friends & family… we appreciate it!

A Spooky Success! – 2016

With the clouds parting just in the nick of time, residents and visitors of Sunnybrae were treated once again to a spooky evening of Halloween celebrations.

The evening kicked off with smokies BBQ’d by the Sunnybrae Tappen Fire Department, the Sunnybrae Bible Camp’s delicious cinnamon buns (which disappeared in a flash!), gorgeous hot chocolate from Tim Horton’s and light refreshments, candy & popcorn from the SCA.

It was also a challenge choosing the winners of our pumpkin carving & costume contests: proof that the neighborhood really knows how to celebrate this spooky day! A big congratulations to all of this year’s winners and a massive thank you to all our local sponsors who donated prizes.

The evening was concluded by a spectacular fireworks display, sponsored by the CSRD and carried out by the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department. The SCA car park sounded like a crowd of zombies and ghouls with the gasps, ooh’s and ahh’s of the crowd, amazed at yet another great light show.

All in all another great event that pulled the community together in celebration. It just wouldn’t have been the same without everyone’s contributions, volunteering and attendance.

Once again everybody: thank you so much!

Halloween in Sunnybrae

sunnybraefireworks-page-001

Halloween is approaching and we are excited to once again host our local fireworks display in celebration.

The celebrations will be held on Monday 31st October. There will be free refreshments served from 630pm inside the Sunnybrae Hall, plus pumpkin carving and Halloween costume contests. We have some wonderful prizes to dish out from local businesses sponsoring the event, so bring along your spooky carvings and chilling costumes!

The Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department will once again be taking care of the fireworks display at 7pm, which we are always thankful for, as well as the CSRD who sponsor this event for the entire community.

See you all soon!

It’s Coffeehouse season!

It’s that time of year again where the swimsuits get tucked away in the bottom drawer, those favourite wool sweaters get pulled on, a cuppa something warm is grasped and we hunker down with the rest of the community to share some wonderful musical evenings.  The coffeehouse season begins!

What better way to kick off the season than with our dearest friends from Kamloops: Doc & The Disorderlies. These folks are a bundle of great, original energy and good vibes!

For newcomers, the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse is the second Saturday of each month, October through to May. Evenings generally run from 730pm to late! (10ish… 11) and it is a sign-up, open mic kinda deal. Each coffeehouse also has a feature band who play a 30-45 minute set usually in the middle of the evening, just after half-time: a good chance to catch-up with neighbours, friends, refill that cup and grab a few sweet nibbles!

As always, all are welcome. Doors at 630pm, starts at 730pm. Entry is $3 and free for sign-up performers.

Why not fill your belly before the evening and head over to the Seniors Hall for chilli & a bun: $5!

Enjoy!
