Improv Comedy Pub Night & Musical Swap Meet 2018

What a great weekend for the Sunnybrae Community Hall this weekend!

Improv Comedy Pub Night – Saturday 9th June

The Radical: Celebrating a great night with a glass of wine from Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery

We had a superb turnout for “The Radical”: an improv comedy troupe from Vancouver, who traveled up to make their Shuswap debut on Sat 9th June. As a collaboration between the Sunnybrae Community Association and the Arts Council for the South Shuswap, The Radical delivered a hilarious and high energy two-part show, encouraging and drawing a huge amount of spontaneous content from the audience’s participation. A licensed bar featured beer & local wine from Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery, with prizes dished out to the participating audience from the Tappen Co-op and Sprockets Coffee.

A huge thanks goes out to The Radical for bringing us a great night of laughter, the sponsors for supporting this event, and of course the Shuswap Community for coming out to support the arts!

Musical Swap Meet – Sunday 10th June

Musical Swap Meet 2018

The Musical Swap Meet is starting to look like a semi-annual event and the Sunnybrae Community Hall saw another good bunch of musically-minded folks coming in from the rain to check out what was on offer.

From record players, books and amplifiers to vintage acoustic guitars, accordions and wooden percussive instruments, the event saw over 14 tables of musical collections this time around.

People came through the hall from 10-2pm on Sunday 10th June to check out the goods and enjoy a hotdog stand run by the Sunnybrae Community Association. The admission, BBQ and table proceeds were all collected and at the end of the day a grand total of $615.90 was raised for the Second Harvest Foodbank and the Women’s Emergency Shelter (SAFE Society) in Salmon Arm!

A big thanks goes out to Dale Bushy, volunteers of the Sunnybrae Community Association and of course all the folks who turned up to buy/sell/swap all their musical treasures!

Stay tuned for another Musical Swap Meet in the Fall.

Raising the Roof!

We are all very excited to see the progress on our Raise the Roof project this past few weeks. Things look like they’re really coming along!

Thank you to Zaichkowsky Construction for undertaking the project. Every day one of us drives past there’s something new to marvel at!

Community Litter Pick-up 2018, a great success!

Litter-Pickup 2018 FB

A tremendous turnout this morning with over 30 volunteers from the Community turning up for the Sunnybrae Community’s Annual “Adopt-a-Highway” Litter Pick-up!

A huge thanks to all the hardworking volunteers involved, members of the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department, the Sunnybrae Seniors Hall, the Sunnybrae Bible Camp, the Sunnybrae Community Association… and the Tappen Co-op for providing the BBQ & refreshments!

Overall we collected just over 50 bags of garbage along Sunnybrae Canoe Point Road.

What a great Community effort to keep our environment clean! ❤️

This is a call for volunteers!

Please spread the word throughout our Sunnybrae Community.

On Sat 21st April the Community of Sunnybrae will be taking part in the annual roadside littler pick-up, under the “Adopt a Highway” initiative.

The event will take place from 10am – 1pm. Volunteers please show up closer to 10am so we can gather teams and begin our clean up!
We will be focusing on the roadside from Trans Canada Highway to Hacking Road.

There will be a volunteer BBQ provided. But if you can, please do bring a set of gardening gloves with you!

Hope to see you all out there 🙂

Raise the Roof – We made it!

Hey everyone… WE MADE IT!

This may be one of the most exciting announcements of 2018 for us at the Sunnybrae Community Association. On behalf of the Sunnybrae Community, we are extremely pleased to share with you that we have now reached our fundraising goal for our “Raise the Roof” Project!

What does this mean? As a Community project originally started by SCA President Sharda Murray-Kieken, “Raise the Roof” aims to bring a new lease of life to the Sunnybrae Community Hall through building a fixed roof structure over the outdoor patio. This space has already been enjoyed on many an occasion. From the Plant & Book Sales, Halloween BBQ Celebrations and Music Jams to Family Gatherings and Wedding Celebrations; our Community have all braved the weather in the name of fun.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the support, hard work, dedication, volunteerism and generosity of so many people in this Community, so cue the Thank You roll!

Thank you to all board members of the Sunnybrae Community Association, past and present, for their diligent volunteer work: planning fundraisers, donating food and goodies at countless events, applying for grants, and generally striving to keep Sunnybrae a Community for all.

Thanks to Linda Franklin for providing the drawings for this project and giving us a vision to aim for.  A huge thanks to the CSRD and Area C Director Paul Demenok for their support and commitment to our vision and to Greg Kyllo, our MLA for the Shuswap, for believing in us. Both have provided significant support in making this project achievable.

Thanks to the Sunnybrae Seniors Hall, the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department and the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse for their continuous fundraising support and assistance over the years.

To all the local businesses who contributed prize giveaways, made donations and supported events: Arts Council for the South Shuswap, Karate Club, Badminton Club, Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery, Sunnybrae Bible Camp, Hudson Vintage, Day Tripper Knits, Power Auto Body, Acorn Music, The Shuswap Pie Company, EcoTreats, The Candy Vault, Doughboyz Pizza, Prisa Lighting, Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Melissa Treleaven, Tim Hortons, Braby Motors, Martina’s Classic Barber Shoppe, Askew’s Foods and Panago Pizza. And once again thanks to the Shuswap Scoop for keeping us all connected!

To the musicians who played our fundraisers and made contributions: Denis Severino and the Sam Gleaves Concert, The Willy Gaw Band, Seal Skull Hammer, The Salmon Armenians, Birchbark, Doc & the Disorderlies, Chicken-Like Birds, Sons of Bitumen and Steph Clifford.

And finally, thank you to the Community of Sunnybrae and surrounding areas, for your generous personal donations and turning up in support of these fundraisers, time after time. It really all adds up!

With a planned build for late Spring 2018, it shouldn’t be long before we can all enjoy this Community meeting space, rain or shine. We hope to celebrate with a Community BBQ later in the year, so stay tuned for an invite 🙂

Maggie Davis at the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse – Saturday 10th March

Maggie CH

We are just continuously spoiled here at the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse!

Coming through the valley to grace the stage this Saturday 10th March, is one of Revelstoke’s musical gems, Maggie Davis.

Her stellar, wholesome vocals bring a wonderful energy to the room, bound to captivate and turn ears, with her repotoire of folk/singer-songwriter originals, amongst an array of uniquely approached covers.

Check out the links below for a taste of Maggie Davis music: a recent duo with Katie Marti as well as a blast from the past (at least some may recognise) as part of Stuck on Honey.

We are so very excited for this one!

Jack Marks – Live at the Sunnybrae Hall!

Happy New Year everyone!

We are proud to announce that with the new year, members in our community have rallied together to throw a concert at our very own Sunnybrae Community Hall!

With the exception of our local Sunnybrae Coffeehouse, it is a rare occasion that concerts appear at the hall, so we are very happy and grateful to see people putting on shows like this for the community.

The artist in question is Jack Marks: a folk/alt-country musician who hails from Toronto, ON. Expect to hear real singer-songwriting: a collection of Jack Mark’s experiences all delivered through songs that will move you in every which way.

Also expect a support appearance of some special guests, which all-in-all is going to make this a truly special evening, celebrating live Canadian music!

Tickets are $15 and available from a number of local vendors listed in the poster below. For any more info, and a taste of Jack’s music, please check out the Facebook Event: Jack Marks – Live at the Sunnybrae Hall.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Music Swap – Thank You!

What a great musical afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who came and joined us on Sat 9th December. And a special thanks to the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department for helping out with our food drive and coming to join in on Edith’s delicious soup.

Together our Music Swap raised $480 for the Salmon Arm Foodbank and Emergency Women’s Shelter!

The Kringles at the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse – Sat 9th Dec

We are all very excited for the last Sunnybrae Coffeehouse of 2017… and a very festive one at that!

Looking forward to welcoming in this great local band: The Kringles!

“With over 120 years of professional musicianship between them, The Kringles have been electrifying crowds since 2012 with their versions of Blues and Rock classics. Vocal harmonies and tight rhythmic grooves allow for danceable entertainment. Chris Emery (drums/vocals), Richard Sevigny (guitars and lap-steel/vocals), Derek Bottcher (bass) and Dale Bush (guitar/vocals) combine their talent and professionalism for one great show.”
