It’s time to relax here in Sunnybrae after quite the busy month! Our Swing into Spring event welcomed an eager crowd of all ages to the dance floor, with two full sets of top-class Hot Club Jazz music, delivered by Salmon Arm’s The Ghost Notes. A huge thanks goes out to Willy Gaw, Darren Herting, Bill Lockie & Mike Scharf for their incredible and engaging performance. Be sure to check them out when you get the chance, they won’t disappoint! A very gracious thank you to all the local businesses who contributed a wealth of goodies to the prize raffle: Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Downtown Askew’s Foods, Martina’s Classic Barber Shoppe, Synergy Studio, Braby Motors, Hudson Vintage, On Alex, Shuswap Pie Company, Moon River Designs, Roots & Blues Festival and board member Karen Berger.
Thank you to Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery and Crannóg Ales for the delicious beverages, to Hudson Vintage, The Shuswap Pie Company, Acorn Music and the Tappen Co-op for supporting us with ticket sales, to the The South Shuswap Scoop and Shuswap Culture for spreading the word, and to the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department for providing us with a “Safe Ride Home” service.
Further thanks goes out to all involved with the Sunnybrae Coffeehouse, which has now wrapped up its season until October 2019. Big thanks to Shuswap Coffee Company for sponsoring us with the tastiest coffee in the Shuwap, as well as our other event sponsors: Hudson Vintage, Tappen Co-op, Shuswap Logistics, Power Autobody and Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery. To the Sunnybrae Seniors Hall for keeping everyone very well fed throughout the whole season – Thank you! And of course, to all the volunteers, performers and participants who keep this vibrant Community gathering alive!
And finally, a few more checks on the to-do list with our hall renovations and upgrades, including a very kind donation from Shuswap Logistics, who brought in a gorgeous new sign for the hall exterior. It really is the icing on the renovation cake – thank you! A special thanks to Power Autobody for painting it up too!
As the board takes a little break for the summer season hall rentals, we’d like to wish you a great rest of your spring and a most excellent summer in the Shuswap! In other very exciting news, the Sunnybrae Community Association will be throwing a fundraiser event on Saturday 25th May, so please mark your calendars, book your babysitters and get yourselves ready for “Swing into Spring!”: an evening of live music and dance with Salmon Arm’s “The Ghost Notes”. With Willy Gaw and Darren Herting on guitar, Mike Scharf on saxophone and Bill Lockie on upright-bass, this incredibly talented quartet are no strangers to the downtown Jazz scene of the Shuswap. Expect no less than high energy Swing and Hot Club Jazz music (think Django Reinhardt), a hugely welcoming vibe and absolutely no previous dance experience necessary! There will be a cash bar serving beer, local wine (sorry no minors at this event) and nibbles, and a by-donation Safe Ride Home can be arranged by calling 250 835 8696; a service very kindly provided by the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department. There will also be a cash raffle-draw going on too so if winning prizes whilst also supporting your local Community Association is your thing… you’re in luck! Tickets for this event are $15 and will be available at Acorn Music, Shuswap Pie Company, Hudson Vintage, the Tappen Co-op, and at the doors. Doors open at 6:30pm with the band opening for the evening at 7:30pm. We are all so very excited to bring this event to the Shuswap, and truly look forward to welcoming all who join us in support of live music, Community get-togethers and Community fundraisers! Please spread the word and share the Facebook Event: Swing into Spring.

The Community of Sunnybrae celebrated a fantastic turnout of volunteers on Sat 30th March for the annual Sunnybrae Community Litter Pick Up. As part of the Adopt-a-Highway program it continues to receive tremendous support from the Community. With 75 volunteers in attendance, this year’s event extended its reach from the highway to Bastion Mountain and over to Heralds Provincial Park. A celebratory BBQ marked the end of the event and was enjoyed amidst Spring sunshine. A huge thanks goes out to the whole community for joining in support, including the Sunnybrae Seniors Society, the Tappen Co-op, the Tappen Sunnybrae Fire Department, Millar College of the Bible, the Sunnybrae Bible Camp and the Sunnybrae Community Association!
